The Appeal of an Older Man

When I was in high school, I worked at a dry cleaner. I loved it when the older guys would bring in their suits and shirts.

These were MEN. Businessmen.

I imagined them brokering deals and running businesses during the day, then taking their women out in the evening to classy places. The kind of places that give you a reason to buy a red dress and go to the salon. Dinner, dancing.... slow dances where he has his hand on the small of your back.

He would have salt and pepper hair, and a steady gait. His stance exhibited confidence. Not arrogance. Rather, it was the kind of easy confidence that comes with time.

He was established. He was at his best now, after the years had taught him what a man should be.

He was handsome. His face was kind, but rugged. Just enough lines to let you know he had wisdom and life experience. One look at him and you knew he had class. Those hands knew how to hold a woman the way she deserved to be held. Like a lady.

I saw it over and over again in the movies. Men like Cary Grant and Clark Gable, Roger Moore and Sean Connery. Later it was Andy Garcia, Harrison Ford, and Liam Neeson. The kind of man Robert Redford portrayed in "Up Close & Personal."

I have been waiting for my own version of this man for a very long time. I sincerely hope he finds me and claims me as his own someday...
